Would it amaze or disappoint you that a whole year had gone by, yet not much had changed?
It often surprises us that we continue to do the same thing day in, day out, week in and week out yet want a different result.
Despite the media dwelling on every negative event in the universe, the message from the world of business is that things are getting better. The road to recovery may be a long one, but we have made the most important first few steps.
Keeping up the momentum as we go further in to 2010 may seem a daunting task, but we must go through it and we must seek to prosper. Whatever your political views, the election will keep some industries from taking the risks they need to go forward, but will also be a "reason" or "excuse" to delay a decision or stop investing in the future.
Until 2008, the UK had seen ten years or so of comfortable growth. Business knew roughly to expect and we all moved forward nicely. Now, planning, forecasting and budgeting seem to challenging to commit to with all the variables that are out there; the competition, the market place, the threat of global terrorism and the pound vs. the euro may all be factors - but we have to make calculated objectives to hit or we will never know how well or (in some cases) how badly. We must set goals to measure our success and justify our accountability and in many cases our income.
The key is flexibility. Get all the knowledge you can to create your business plans, but be ready to adapt and overcome as obstacles appear.
One of my goals for 2010 is to win 25 NEW clients. Will I achieve it? Who knows. But my commitment to my business and myself will motivate me every day to do all I can to ensure that it happens.
Why am I writing this? Well in order to hit my target of 25 clients, I need to do a lot of networking, prospecting and selling. One of the many things I am doing is writing this blog and placing it as an advert for my business on to the web.
